About

I currently work in lower-middle-market private equity after spending ~3.5 years in J.P. Morgan's M&A group in New York and beginning my career at Citigroup. My path into finance was far from traditional. I attended Baruch College (non-target / CUNY) and didn't have the traditional Wall Street recruiting pipeline or a built-in network in the industry. I worked throughout college, intentionally stacking classes onto certain days so I could intern during the school year. Over time, I built experience across several areas of finance before starting full-time at Citigroup, lateraling into J.P. Morgan M&A, and eventually making the jump into private equity. I've personally gone through the undergraduate internship recruiting, summer analyst recruiting, full-time recruiting, lateral investment banking recruiting, and private equity recruiting. During my time at J.P. Morgan, I also heavily participated in internship, full-time, and placement recruiting, giving me experience on the interviewer side as well. I've had interviews go well, processes go nowhere, networking emails get ignored, and plenty of moments where I questioned whether I was competitive enough for the next opportunity. I eventually made it into roles that honestly felt pretty far away when I was first starting at Baruch. That's the perspective I bring to coaching. I'm particular interested in helping students from non-target and unconventional backgrounds who feel like they're trying to figure this process out with the same network or resources as everyone else. I'm not here to sell shortcuts or guarantee interviews. I'll be an open book about my own experience, give you candid feedback on where i think you're spending your time well or poorly, and help you build a practical plan around your specific situation. Don't hesitate to reach out!

Andy’s Investment Banking Qualifications

Experience level: Associate

I currently work in lower-middle-market private equity after spending ~3.5 years in J.P. Morgan's M&A group in New York and beginning my career at Citi. My path into finance was far from traditional. I attended Baruch College / CUNY, was the first person in my family to break into high finance, and did not have the traditional Wall Street recruiting pipeline. I worked throughout college, stacked classes so I could intern during the school year, and gradually built experience across several finance roles before ultimately making the jump from Citi to J.P. Morgan M&A and then into private equity. I've had interviews go well. I've had processes go nowhere. I've sent plenty of networking emails. I've made mistakes. And I eventually made it into roles that honestly felt pretty far away when I was first starting at Baruch. That's the perspective I bring to coaching. I'm particularly interested in working with students from non-target schools and people who feel like they're trying to figure this out without the same network or resources as everyone else. I know how frustrating that can be. I'm not here to sell shortcuts or guarantee interviews. What I can do is be an open book about my own experience, tell you candidly where I think you're spending your time well or poorly, help you sharpen your story and resume, and give you practical feedback on how I would approach the process if I were in your shoes. If you're serious about breaking into the industry and willing to put the work in, I'm happy to help make the path a little clearer!

Why do I coach?

Finance recruiting can feel incredibly confusing when you don't come from a school or family where everyone already knows how the process works. I remember that feeling very well. When I was at Baruch, there wasn't one person who handed me a roadmap and told me exactly which internships to pursue, who to network with, how to tell my story or what I needed to do to eventually reach investment banking. I benefited from people who were willing to take a coffee chat, answer a question or give me candid advice along the way, but a lot of it was also trial and error. I sent the networking emails. I prepared for interviews that went nowhere. I questioned whether I was competitive enough for certain opportunities. I had to figure out how to turn experiences that weren't traditional investment banking internships into a story that made sense. And I had to go through recruiting multiple times — during college, for full-time roles, lateraling into investment banking and eventually recruiting for private equity. Over the years, students and recent graduates started reaching out to me for coffee chats and recruiting advice, particularly people from non-target schools. I kept taking those calls because I genuinely enjoyed them. I know how much a candid 30-minute conversation with the right person can help when you're overwhelmed by conflicting advice and don't know what you should actually be focusing on. That's really why I'm coaching. I'm not interested in selling someone a magic formula for breaking into Wall Street. There isn't one. I also won't promise interviews, offers or shortcuts. What I can do is be an open book about my own experience, listen to where you are today, and give you the type of direct and practical feedback I would have wanted when I was in your position. Sometimes that means completely reworking a resume. Sometimes it's fixing your networking approach or interview story. And sometimes it's simply telling you that you're doing more right than you think and helping you figure out the next two or three moves. If you're coming from a non-target or unconventional background and feel like the odds are stacked against you, that's exactly the type of candidate I most enjoy working with. I've been there, and I'd like to make the path a little less confusing for the next person.
