A PhD is more than an application. It is a multi-year research and mentoring environment shaped by faculty, funding, intellectual community, program structure, and the direction you hope your work will take. This package is for prospective doctoral applicants who want to think carefully about whether a PhD is the right next step, which programs and research environments fit their emerging direction, and how to communicate their preparation and goals clearly. You do not need a finalized program list to begin. If you are still exploring, we can use our first session to clarify your research direction and the criteria that matter most to you. Together, we may work on: • Why a PhD, why now, and what you hope doctoral study will make possible • Your emerging research direction, preparation, strengths, and developmental needs • Overall fit across up to 8 programs you identify • Deeper consideration of up to 3 priority programs within that list • Faculty, mentoring, intellectual community, funding, and institutional fit • Applicant positioning, recommenders, and faculty outreach when appropriate The goal is not only to strengthen an application. It is to help you identify environments where you may be able to learn, contribute, belong, and grow. Your package includes • 75-minute PhD Pathway, Research Fit & Funding session • 50-minute Positioning & Application Strategy session • Developmental review of one academic CV • Developmental review of one applicant-authored primary statement up to 1,500 words • Strategic review of up to 8 programs, including deeper consideration of up to 3 priority programs • Personalized written PhD Research & Fit Map • One consolidated follow-up

My approach looks beyond whether a faculty member simply studies your topic. We consider the broader doctoral environment: research alignment, mentoring, intellectual community, training opportunities, funding, and institutional context. You gather program information using a guided worksheet; I help you compare options, interpret what you find, identify questions or gaps, and develop your strategy. Session 1 | 75 minutes: Clarify your doctoral purpose, research direction, preparation, fit criteria, mentoring needs, funding questions, and program strategy. Session 2 | 50 minutes: Connect that strategy to your CV, applicant-authored statement, recommenders, program priorities, and next steps. You remain the decision-maker throughout. My role is to help you see the landscape more clearly and make an informed choice.

  • Clearer direction about whether doctoral study—and its timing—fits your goals
  • A stronger understanding of your research direction, preparation, strengths, and fit criteria
  • Strategic insight into up to 8 PhD programs, with deeper consideration of up to 3 priority programs
  • Developmental feedback on your academic CV and one applicant-authored primary statement
  • A personalized PhD Research & Fit Map summarizing your priorities, mentoring and funding questions, key tradeoffs, unanswered questions, and next steps

Whether you’re exploring graduate school, considering research opportunities, navigating a transition, or wondering what comes next, it can help to have someone think it through with you. That’s where my work begins. Through Anglón Practice, I offer graduate school advising, mindful coaching, and mindfulness meditation courses and guided practice. We might explore whether a master’s or PhD fits your goals, evaluate research opportunities and mentoring environments, or work through a decision or change in your life. Through mindful coaching or meditation courses, you can also explore ways to bring greater awareness and self-compassion into everyday experience. My advising draws on more than 20 years in graduate education, admissions, research pathways, funding, and student support, including leadership at MIT and experience at Harvard and the University of Maryland. I’m also a National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach and a current USC PhD student. I’m completing my mindfulness teacher training, with certification anticipated in January 2027. Across all three streams, my approach is mindful, collaborative, culturally responsive, and systems-aware. Together, we’ll explore what matters to you, make information and options easier to understand, and pay attention to the strengths, relationships, resources, and circumstances shaping your choices. Specific mindfulness and self-compassion practices are offered with choice and adapted to your goals and comfort. My role isn’t to decide for you. It’s to help you make informed and intentional choices that fit your goals, your context, and the life you’re trying to build. Schedule a free introductory call to talk about what brings you here and whether working together would be useful.
