Applying to an REU, SROP, MSRP-style program, or another summer research opportunity? Before you submit, would a knowledgeable second perspective help you see what your application communicates? Drawing on more than 20 years in graduate education, including directing MIT's Summer Research Program (MSRP), I offer a focused final review of your summer research application materials. My experience includes research recruitment, application review, faculty placements, and student development. You don't need extensive research experience to have something meaningful to contribute. Research programs can value curiosity, preparation, initiative, and a genuine interest in learning. My approach looks beyond grammar and surface polish to consider four questions: Preparation: Does your application communicate the knowledge, experiences, interests, and strengths you bring—even if this would be your first formal research experience? Purpose: Is it clear what sparks your curiosity, what you hope to explore, and what you want to learn through research? Fit: Do your materials explain why this particular research opportunity, program, or research environment interests you? Readiness: What is already working, and what deserves attention before submission? I'll review your near-final application statement or short-answer responses and CV or résumé for one research opportunity, provide written feedback and a personalized Submission Readiness & Fit Snapshot, and meet with you to discuss your most important next steps. The goal is not a perfect application or a guarantee of selection. It's to help you communicate your curiosity, preparation, research interests, and potential clearly, credibly, and in your own voice.

I begin by reviewing your near-final application responses, CV or résumé, the program's actual prompts, and information about the research opportunity you're applying to. My review considers Preparation, Purpose, Fit, and Readiness. I'll look at how your experiences, research interests, and learning goals come together—and whether a reader can understand why this particular opportunity is meaningful to you. Drawing on my experience directing MIT's Summer Research Program, I consider how applicants communicate research curiosity and potential, including when they are new to research. You'll receive annotated feedback and a concise Submission Readiness & Fit Snapshot highlighting what is working, what could be strengthened, and what still needs verification. We'll then meet for a 30-minute conversation to discuss my observations and prioritize your next steps. My approach is collaborative, candid, and developmental. I provide substantive guidance while respecting your voice, your experiences, and your ownership of the application.

  • Annotated feedback on one applicant-authored research statement or set of short-answer responses (up to 800 words total) and one CV or résumé (up to two pages).
  • Personalized Submission Readiness & Fit Snapshot identifying strengths to preserve, priority revisions, and important research-program details or requirements to verify.
  • One 30-minute individual debrief to discuss your feedback, answer questions about the review, and clarify your final revision priorities.

Whether you’re exploring graduate school, considering research opportunities, navigating a transition, or wondering what comes next, it can help to have someone think it through with you. That’s where my work begins. Through Anglón Practice, I offer graduate school advising, mindful coaching, and mindfulness meditation courses and guided practice. We might explore whether a master’s or PhD fits your goals, evaluate research opportunities and mentoring environments, or work through a decision or change in your life. Through mindful coaching or meditation courses, you can also explore ways to bring greater awareness and self-compassion into everyday experience. My advising draws on more than 20 years in graduate education, admissions, research pathways, funding, and student support, including leadership at MIT and experience at Harvard and the University of Maryland. I’m also a National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach and a current USC PhD student. I’m completing my mindfulness teacher training, with certification anticipated in January 2027. Across all three streams, my approach is mindful, collaborative, culturally responsive, and systems-aware. Together, we’ll explore what matters to you, make information and options easier to understand, and pay attention to the strengths, relationships, resources, and circumstances shaping your choices. Specific mindfulness and self-compassion practices are offered with choice and adapted to your goals and comfort. My role isn’t to decide for you. It’s to help you make informed and intentional choices that fit your goals, your context, and the life you’re trying to build. Schedule a free introductory call to talk about what brings you here and whether working together would be useful.
