About Helaman
I am an MBA admissions coach and am currently in the second year of my MBA at Harvard Business School. My coaching approach combines high-level application strategy with tactical communication, helping you powerfully showcase your strongest skills, experiences, and character across your resume and essays. I am a particularly good fit for applicants with a nontraditional professional background, deferred admissions applicants, and Latino/a applicants. My professional background is in the social sector, including social impact strategy consulting, philanthropic program development, and nonprofit data operations. I understand both the challenges and the advantages of applying with a non-traditional background. I help clients turn diverse experiences into a cohesive, compelling narrative tailored for MBA programs. For deferred admissions applicants, I guide the process of translating undergrad internships and campus leadership into a powerful story about trajectory and future aspirations. As a Latino, I'm passionate about increasing representation at top programs and supporting applicants from my community. Outside of my professional life, I enjoy listening to and playing music, traveling and exploring the amazing outdoors with my wife and 2 dogs, and reading fiction and nonfiction in my limited free time. I grew up in the metro-Detroit area and maintain it's one of the most underrated cities in the US, and have also spent a few years in Seattle which I have a huge soft spot for as well.
Why do I coach?
I coach because I know firsthand how transformative the guidance can be as an MBA applicant. During my HBS 2+2 application process, a great mentor pushed me to think more strategically about my story and to sharpen how I communicated it. This feedback absolutely leveled up my application and made me realize the huge difference targeted feedback and an external perspective can make. I hope to give other applicants that same advantage.
