Terach’s Chief of Staff Qualifications
Experience level: Analyst
I was Chief of Staff at Carry1st, a venture-backed mobile games publisher in Africa backed by a16z, Sony and Google, where my remit was strategy, corporate development and strategic finance. I came into the role from the investing side — M&A at Evercore, then fintech investing at IFC and Apis Partners — and left it to found my own company. That arc is the thing most useful to people considering this job. Chief of Staff is one of the least standardised roles in tech. Two people with the same title can be doing completely different work: one is running board and fundraising processes, the other is managing the CEO's calendar. Before you take an offer, you need to know which one you're being hired for, because they lead to different places three years out. I coach on getting into the role and on doing it well. On the way in: how to read a CoS job spec for what the founder actually wants, how to position a banking, consulting or investing background for an operating seat, how to handle case and judgment interviews, and how to negotiate scope and equity when the role has no comparable. On the job: running board meetings and investor reporting, owning fundraising workstreams, building strategic finance, and the harder part — holding influence without headcount, and knowing when the role has stopped compounding and it's time to move into a line role, a fund, or your own thing.

Work Experience
Founder & CEO
Jireh Health
September 2024 - Present
We build AI-native health insurance for Africa. Fewer than one in ten Africans has any cover — most people pay for care out of pocket, at the counter, and medical bills push millions into poverty every year. At the same time, more than half of the world's population growth over the next twenty-five years will come from this continent. The insurance system that serves them has to be built, and it won't look like the one built for Europe a century ago. Jireh Health is venture-backed and started in Kenya. We work with hospitals to make care affordable for uninsured patients today, and use what we learn to build the coverage system these markets will run on. I spent nine years in investment banking and emerging-markets investing before this. I coach on pre-seed fundraising, pitch narrative, and building in emerging markets, and I'm happy to speak candidly with anyone weighing up leaving finance to start something.

Chief of Staff
Carry1st
November 2022 - April 2024
Chief of Staff to the CEO of leading mobile games publisher and digital commerce platform, backed by a16z, Sony and Google with over $60M raised. I joined at around 60 people and was there through the growth to 150. My remit was strategy / strategic projects, corporate development, strategic finance. That included leading new market and product entries, financial modeling / running budgets, board reporting, raising venture debt from top tier American bank, expansion into North Africa, and evaluating a move into prepaid cards. I also ran VP-level recruitment across product, legal and other functions. Chief of Staff roles are poorly defined and hard to prepare for. I can help you work out whether the role fits what you want, how to position yourself coming from banking, consulting or investing, and how to handle the case and planning exercises most processes turn on.

Fintech Investor
Apis Partners
September 2021 - October 2022
Originated, evaluated and executed fintech growth equity transactions across Africa and Asia for a $1bn AUM specialist investor in financial services. Spans sourcing, commercial diligence, structuring and portfolio value creation in some of the world's most complex markets. Good grounding if you want to move into growth equity, work on Africa or Asia strategies, or understand how investors underwrite frontier-market fintech.

Angel Investor
Angel Investor
April 2020 - Present
Investor into various fintechs across emerging markets

Venture Capital Investor
IFC - International Finance
September 2019 - August 2021
Invested in fintech across payments, insurtech and capital markets for the private equity arm of the World Bank Group ($50bn AUM), spanning early to growth stage in emerging markets. Invested in Series A and growth rounds across trading software and trade execution, served as board observer at an Indian insurtech, and supported a US capital markets tech company through its exit to a strategic acquirer. Helped shape IFC's payments strategy in Turkey. Deep-dive diligence across India, Brazil, Turkey and Vietnam. Useful if you're targeting DFIs, impact investing, or emerging-markets VC and want to understand how these institutions actually make decisions.

Investment Banking Associate
Evercore
July 2016 - August 2019
Evercore London office. Executed public and private M&A transactions worth over $10bn at one of the world's leading independent advisory firms, across fintech, consumer and natural resources in EMEA. Deals included the $5bn sale of NEX Group to CME Group and the distressed sale of Flybe to a Virgin Atlantic-led consortium. Built the models, board presentations and marketing materials, and ran due diligence processes end to end. Completed Evercore's formal modeling programmes (AMT Training, Training The Street). I coach on investment banking recruiting, technical interviews, financial modeling and surviving your first two years on the desk.
