Since taking the SAT in 2018, I've used my experiences studying for and taking the exam to help students achieve similar results. Of all standardized tests, the SAT is arguably the most consistent and predetermined (i.e. you're always guaranteed to get X number of questions per concept in the math sections). I leverage this knowledge to create a well rounded approach to studying for my students to ensure they are positioned to score exceptionally well and strengthen their undergraduate application.

Hello! I began my coaching career in the high-stakes world of test prep on the Upper East Side of New York City. Working at a boutique firm (Academic Approach), I taught all sections of the SAT at some of NYC's most elite schools, including Spence, Bamford-Nightingale, and Lycée Français de New York. I pride myself on meeting students where they are and working with them to achieve their full potential. I realize that this process is incredibly stressful on both students and parents, so I maintain constant communication throughout the journey. Carl has taught, literally, thousands of students to succeed on the SAT, and thousands more the ACT, LSAT, GRE, and GMAT, over a career spanning over two decades in the test preparation world. Originally an academic, he holds advanced degrees from Yale, the University of Glasgow, and the University of Georgia, and since leaving academia he has taught, tutored, and written content for Magoosh, Kaplan, Harvard Prep, SuccessPrep, Parliament Tutors, Varsity Tutors, and many other companies, and has since founded his own company, Ivory Tower Tutoring. He was also, for many years, the chief writer for Barron''s GMAT product line.

I graduated from Harvard with the John Harvard Scholarship (top 5% GPA), a major in Integrative Biology, and a minor in Computer Science. I have over 6 years of experience working as a full-time tutor for the ACT, SAT, and SSAT. I have worked with over 25 clients on the SAT alone, and I have taken almost every practice test that has been released since 2014. In my free time, I create SAT software for the TI-Nspire Calculator and free online instructional videos for a wide audience. On average, my students have enjoyed improvements of anywhere between 150-250 points on the SAT. I know how to teach the Writing sections so that you will receive a perfect score. Two of my students have increased their scores from 600-800 in this section, and most of my students end my program scoring perfectly on the writing section especially. In the two tutoring companies I have worked for in the past, I was promoted to the highest tutoring status. I also work with college admissions, and of the six students I worked with this year, three received interviews with Harvard. I tutor full-time, and I am ready to help you reach the score of your dreams.

Reading and writing can seem unscientific, but I can help bring some method to the madness. I received a 780 on the section in high school (1 wrong), and have since helped tutor many high school students during college. There are common patterns for the types of questions you'll get asked, and I will help you think like a test-maker and test-taker.
