As a two-time member of the Georgetown Law Admissions Committee with 10 years of experience as an admissions consultant, I know what law schools are looking for and how to help students present themselves positively and persuasively to the admissions committee. I am an expert educator and editor with experience teaching college students and professionals in one-on-one and group settings with specific emphasis in writing and prelaw skills. My experience as an attorney at the #1 intellectual property litigation group in the country, as well as in the federal government and small to medium-sized firms, has provided me with insider knowledge about the skills and qualities legal employers are seeking. My former students have graduated from some of the top law schools, including Columbia, Georgetown, and George Washington, and have continued on to federal clerkships, law firms, public interest, and government roles. As a former Associate Director of Admissions at Stanford Law School, I have read thousands of applications front to back, and have a deep understanding of what top law schools are looking for. It is more than just trying to 'stand out' from the crowd. You will need to craft a highly compelling story so that you convince the admissions committee that you have amazing potential as a law student, AND you will make a valuable contribution. I have many years of experience helping prospective law students gain admission to their dream schools - even those with less than optimal GPAs and LSAT scores. I am a strong believer that an applicant is more than the numbers - but the essay is the make-it or break-it factor. I will be your thought partner and supportive advisor from start to finish. I have expertise developing individualized time lines, school lists, letters of recommendation, resumes, essays (required and optional), character and fitness paragraphs, managing waitlists and even negotiating financial aid awards. I grew up in South Tucson, Arizona, and I’m now a JD/PhD candidate at Yale Law School and the University of Oxford. For over ten years, I’ve helped students from first-gen, low-income, and immigrant backgrounds gain admission to top law schools and receive the most prestigious scholarships by turning their life stories into clear, compelling application narratives. As a Truman Scholar, Marshall Scholar, and Skadden Fellow, I’ve been through the fellowship and admissions process at the highest levels. I know how intimidating this process can feel, especially if you don’t come from a background where people “know how this works.” I’m here to help guide you through the admissions process and put forward the strongest version of your story.

Daniel Khalessi served as President of the Stanford Law Review and is a startup and venture capital lawyer at Sidley Austin LLP in San Francisco. He is passionate about helping others turn their personal experiences into powerful stories and achieve their dreams. Having lost his Dad at a young age, Daniel understands what it is like to overcome challenges. A product of Bay Area public schools, Daniel earned a B.A. from Stanford, M.A. in Global Affairs from Yale, M.A. in Economics (China Studies) from Peking University, and his J.D. from Stanford Law School, where he served as a Teaching Assistant in constitutional law and earned prizes for outstanding performance. He previously worked as a startup lawyer at Latham & Watkins LLP and as a China analyst at Harvard's Belfer Center.

I have advised hundreds and hundreds of law school applicants over an almost twenty year period. I am an expert in law school admissions and have also published a book and a nationwide column about it. Many applicants that I have advised have been admitted to their top choice of law schools. Some of my former students have also received up to full scholarships to law school. I am also an expert on the subject of legal careers, as well as alternative legal careers. In addition I have taught several courses for students planning to apply to law school. I am a graduate of Brown University and Boston College Law School.

With no career coaching, LSAT classes/tutoring, pre-law program/advisors, or mentors, I understand the challenges that aspiring law students face. As an associate at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP, one of the top law firms in the country, I bring real-world experience to my coaching. I have coached 5+ individuals in the past, helping them gain admission into their dream law schools. Clients I’ve worked with have earned admission to T-14 programs and received significant scholarship awards, including applicants with unconventional paths or imperfect GPAs. Personally, I navigated the process twice (once with the GRE and once with the LSAT) and received multiple T-14 offers and scholarship packages, which gives me firsthand insight into how schools evaluate applicants. While I work with all candidates, I consider my coaching ideal for applicants with nontraditional backgrounds, career pivots, gap years, or imperfect GPA/LSAT profiles. Over the past several years, I’ve coached applicants with every kind of background. This ranges from traditional and non-traditional applications. Prospective students and clients have entered feeling they had imperfect credentials and often left with competitive admissions and scholarship decisions. Beyond my admissions experience, I bring a commercial and legal background that helps applicants articulate their professional maturity, career readiness, and real-world value in ways admissions committees respond to. I don’t just edit essays, in fact I'd suggest I'm not the best coach if tha'ts your main aim. I help you build a strategy that highlights your strengths, neutralizes weaknesses, and presents a cohesive, compelling story. The law school process can feel opaque and inconsistent. I grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina, and earned my degrees in French and Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I went on to pursue my Juris Doctor (JD) at Duke University School of Law — an experience that deepened my love for the study of law. While I briefly worked in the legal field, I quickly realized that what truly inspired me wasn’t practicing law — it was helping others find their path through education. That realization led me to pivot into the field of international higher education, where I discovered my passion for mentoring students through the admissions process. For over 15 years, I’ve worked in university admissions at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. As a former admissions officer, I’ve reviewed hundreds of applications from students around the world. My experience includes serving as the Assistant Director of Recruitment and Admissions at the University of Chicago Booth Executive MBA program, where I gained firsthand insight into what top-tier programs look for in standout candidates. I spent over a decade living in Hong Kong, where I worked with both local and international students on applications to law school, MBA, Master’s, and undergraduate programs. Now based back in Raleigh, I continue to support students worldwide as they pursue their academic and professional goals.
