Sales and Trading Interview Programme
A three-session programme to prepare you for sales and trading interviews, run by a former Global Markets MD who hired for his own desk. Before we start, you send me your CV, the roles and banks you are applying to, and where you are in the process. Session 1: Diagnostic mock interview (60 minutes). A realistic first-round interview, covering motivation, markets and technical questions. Afterwards you receive a written scorecard showing your strengths, your gaps and what to work on first. Session 2: Technical and markets drill (60 minutes). Focused on the desk you are targeting. We work through the products, the market questions you are likely to face, and your market view, until you can explain and defend it under pressure. Session 3: Final-round simulation (60 minutes). A full mock in the style of a final round, with harder follow-up questions and less help from me. We finish with a debrief on what to fix before the real thing. Written feedback after every session. Short questions between sessions by Leland message, answered within two working days. Best suited to students, graduates and career changers targeting sales, structuring or trading roles in rates, FX and fixed income.
What's included
I interview you the way a real interviewer would. I push back, ask follow-up questions and tell you plainly where you stand. I don’t give you scripts. I help you build answers in your own words, because interviewers can hear a memorised answer. Having hired for my own desk, I focus on what actually decides the outcome: how you think about markets, how you explain a product, and how you hold up under pressure.
- A written scorecard of how an interviewer would rate you today.
- A prioritised list of technical and markets topics to revise for your target desk.
- Clear answers to “why markets, why this desk, why this bank”, in your own words.
- A market view you can explain and defend under questioning.
- Written feedback from a final-round simulation, with specific fixes before your interview.

Global Markets Managing Director | Sales and Trading Interview Prep
I came into banking from the British Army, not through the standard graduate route, so I know what it takes to break in from outside it. My first role was as an associate in project finance derivatives at Lloyds. I then built and led a corporate derivatives sales desk at SMBC, where I was a Managing Director. On that desk I interviewed and hired the people who joined my team. I help students, graduates and career changers prepare for sales and trading interviews. We work on the questions you will actually face: markets, products, how you would pitch an idea to a client, and why you want this desk and not another. I run realistic mock interviews and give you written feedback after each one, so you know exactly what to fix. Working with me is direct. I will tell you plainly where you stand, how an interviewer would see you, and what to change before the real thing. No coach can promise you an offer. My aim is that you walk in prepared and know how you will be judged.
