As a graduate of Harvard Business School and the University of Pennsylvania, I didn't arrive at either institution though a conventional path. I spent three years in government service before business school, as a first-generation student without connections or a clear roadmap, but ultimately gained acceptance and full scholarships at several top MBA programs.
