Colten’s Dental School Qualifications
Colten has helped clients get into these schools:
Recieved interview invitations to the majority of school I applied to and was accepted into most of those. Assisted in interview days for prospective Utah dental students. Currently serving in leadership positions that have provided me access to admissions committee members that have explained what they look for in potential candidates. Current chief resident in my orthodontic residency. I have spent numerous hours learning what admissions committees of all types look for. When I applied I received notable interview invites for 16 residencies and hope to share this knowledge with other applicants.

About Colten
I’m a current PG1 at Nova Southeastern Orthodontics. I was previously a pre-med student at Utah State before transitioning to dentistry and applying in the 2019 cycle. Though I started preparing to apply to dental school later than most I sought out mentors that their knowledge helped me recieve many interviews and gain acceptance into University of the Pacific, Virginia Commonwealth University, and the University of Utah. Now in school I have assisted with the interview process and discussed with admissions committee members what they look for in an applicant. This past year I sat on the selection committee for my residency. I have also advised several applicants on how to strengthen their application, all were accepted to programs. Prior to dental school, I attended Utah State University and studied Economics. In my time there I participated in economic policy research and researched how to increase care to underserved populations. Through the policy research institute I took courses in healthcare economics, game theory, and policy analysis. I was also accepted into a competitive scholarship program that provided me with experience in networking, leadership, and international learning. Mentors I found through economics, clubs, and shadowing advised me on what they look for in applicants. Their advice completely altered my application format and assisted in receiving many invitations for interviews at top dental schools. When I applied to orthodontic residency I received interviews to 16 top programs. I spent my time in undergrad and dental school preparing an application that not only sparks interest but creates opportunities. I am passionate about dentistry, orthodontics, and mentorship. The application process is confusing and full of advice not tailored to an individual's application. Applicants need individual advice that highlights the best parts of their applications.
Why do I coach?
A mentor guided me through the confusing process of dental school applications. They showed me what admissions committees look for and how to present myself to maximize their interest. Their advice on the experiences I placed on my application as well as my letter of intent increased the interest committees had in me. The changes that my mentor suggested were often the points committees were most interested in. There are so many resources for applying to dental school and orthodontic residency, it can be easy to get lost. I hope to help students have opportunities at schools that best fit their goals and lives.
