Christian Liu

My academic path has taken me between computer science at Harvard and music composition at Berklee—fields that ask different questions, but share a concern for structure, invention, and precision. I bring both perspectives to my work with students: an analytical eye for how an application fits together, and a composer’s sensitivity to the details that give it an individual voice. I am especially drawn to the places where a student’s interests resist easy categorization. The pursuits that seem difficult to reconcile can offer the most revealing starting points, because the relationships among them can illuminate how a student thinks, what they value, and what they hope to explore. My role is to be a strategic partner, through thoughtful reading and careful editing. Whether we are considering the application as a whole or working through the language of a single essay, I help students make deliberate choices about what to share and how to express it, all while keeping authorship firmly in their hands.
