Adama’s Investment Banking Qualifications

Experience level: Intern

I'm a senior at Duke and spent last summer in investment banking at Goldman Sachs in the Financial Institutions Group, where I worked on live deals and built merger models, DCFs and comps that I presented to senior bankers. Before that I was at Davidson Kempner, and I spent several weeks at Wharton through Girls Who Invest learning accounting, valuation and modeling from the ground up. At Duke, I lead the education series for BlackGen Capital, a student investment fund, so I already teach sophomores technicals and modeling every week. I'm an English major who had to learn all of this from scratch, so I know how to explain it to someone who is starting from zero. I can help with networking, resumes, technicals and interview prep for investment banking recruiting.

As an English major, I learned most of what I know about finance recruiting by going through it myself. I spent my sophomore summer at Davidson Kempner rotating across the merger arb, corporate credit and private credit desks, and my junior summer in investment banking at Goldman Sachs in the Financial Institutions Group. I also did the Girls Who Invest summer intensive and an investment fellowship with Roark Capital. On campus, I lead the education series for BlackGen Capital, a student investment fund, where I teach the modeling curriculum to newer members. I was also an Orientation Leader for Project BUILD and I’m involved in Tri Delt, Duke Africa and BSA. Teaching through BlackGen is what made me want to coach sophomores, since I remember how confusing the process was at that stage.
