Carl has taught, literally, thousands of students to succeed on the ACT, and thousands more the SAT, LSAT, GRE, and GMAT, over a career spanning over two decades in the test preparation world. Originally an academic, he holds advanced degrees from Yale, the University of Glasgow, and the University of Georgia, and since leaving academia he has taught, tutored, and written content for Magoosh, Kaplan, Harvard Prep, SuccessPrep, Parliament Tutors, Varsity Tutors, and many other companies, and has since founded his own company, Ivory Tower Tutoring. He was also, for many years, the chief writer for Barron''s GMAT product line.

Welcome! I scored a 34 out of 36 on the ACT, and I've spent years since helping students reach scores like that themselves. My academic background includes an MBA from Harvard Business School and master's degrees in Defense and Strategic Studies and in Engineering, so the kind of disciplined, strategic studying the ACT rewards is something I both teach and have lived. I scored a 35 composite on my ACT, and a 36 in Reading, Science, and English. Additionally, I was admitted to Baylor University with a full ride scholarship as a result of my ACT score. I have also helped others achieve ACT scores of 32+ with dedicated time and practice.
