Your First 90 Days: Be the Hire They Meant to Make

You have the new job or role, or you are about to start. The risk now is not the search. It is the first 90 days. Team huddles, difficult discussions, the AI stack, tying results to sales pipeline. Teams expect a marketing leader who can choose tools, design inputs, and knows how to spot bad outputs. This engagement is a structured first 90 days for a marketing professional stepping into a new company, a new role, or a promotion. Together, we turn your new job or role into a 90-day plan, a stakeholder map, a working AI stack, and a visible win you can point to before the honeymoon ends. ⦾ Six 1:1 sessions across the first 90 days: before day one or in week one, then at day 30, day 60, and day 90. ⦾ Async review between sessions on the 30-60-90 plan, your reflections and notes, what's going well and also the challenges, and the AI workflows you are actually using. ⦾ Mandate readout: what you were hired to do, what your manager will actually judge, and what not to tackle in the first month. ⦾ Stakeholder map: manager, peers, sales, product, and the one skeptic, with how you will use the first conversations. ⦾ Narrative for the room: the three-line story you will use in the intro meetings, so the role is framed before someone else frames it. ⦾ AI stack for this role: which tools to use for research, drafting, and analysis, which to skip, and the check you run before anything AI-written reaches a stakeholder. ⦾ One early win, scoped so it is visible by day 60, with AI used where it shortens the work and your judgment where it cannot: a brief, a readout, a decision, or a fix, not a rebrand. Examples: A pipeline readout on the last two campaigns: spend, sourced pipeline, conversion roadmap, sales pipe impact. ⦾ One broken handoff fixed, with the new brief or SLA in use: lead routing, campaign request form, or event follow-up. ⦾ A kill on a channel or program that was spending without a sourced-pipeline number, with the budget moved. ⦾ Day-60 reset: what to drop, what to protect, what has to be true by day 90, and whether the AI workflow is saving time or creating rework. ⦾ Close: a written read on how your first 90 days landed, the two priorities for the next two quarters, and the AI practice worth keeping. Pricing note: I am a successful chief marketing officer, but I am new to Leland. I am offering a founding client discount of $200 off the package price for my first three clients, in exchange for a review at the end of our work together.

My coaching style is direct but easy going. I understand how very important your career is to you, and we will have honest back-and-forth about what the data shows regarding your competitiveness for promotions and/or hiring. My conversation style is warm, non-pressure, and I love to share some good humor about the workplace and life in general. Your outcomes from this investment matter the most to me. This package is 100% customized, not generic advice that could apply to anyone else. I use AI to accelerate the research, never to replace my judgment, so the assessment and coaching you get is grounded in real-time data combined with decades of interviewing job candidates, hiring good people and deciding who gets promoted. Colleagues and clients typically describe me as refreshingly honest and relaxed.

  • A 30-60-90 roadmap for outcomes you want to achieve.
  • A clear read on the real job, not just the job description.
  • An immediate stakeholder list and what to ask for in each of the first conversations.
  • A clear plan and 1:1 practice for handling difficult conversations.
  • A narrative that describes your role in the first 90 days, so the new team gets it. Example: “I was hired to get marketing off mere activity and onto sourced pipeline. In the first 60 days I am cutting what we cannot tie to an opportunity and putting one corrected handoff with sales into use. I am not reopening the website or the brand until that number is visible.”
  • A foundation AI onboarding for this job, with a plan for when to trust the output and when not. Example: A company LLM with the CRM export and the last two quarters of campaign results loaded. Use it to sort campaign outcomes by sourced pipeline and to draft the kill-or-keep list.
  • One scoped win you want to achieve, with proof you can put in a quarterly update, including the inputs you used and/or process created.

I've spent 30 years building and leading marketing organizations for B2B and technology companies, including CMO and senior executive roles at Fortune 500 and growth-stage companies across SaaS, enterprise software, IT solutions, data storage, and data analytics—and I bring that experience directly into how I coach. My marketing leadership has contributed directly to four successful company exits: Givful (acquired by iSolved), MEDarchon (acquired by Xsolis), DataFrameworks (acquired by Dell Technologies), and Anacomp's Magnetics Division (acquired by a New York private equity firm). Across these engagements and 25+ years of prior executive leadership, I've built go-to-market strategies from scratch, run marketing operations engineered for top-tier execution, positioned companies for investor and board scrutiny, including pitching venture and private equity firms on Sand Hill Road and in New York, and led and scaled global marketing teams through growth, turnaround, and transition. I've owned P&Ls exceeding $100 million, sat with boards, and been the executive brought in to fix what wasn't working and prepare a company for its next chapter, whether that was a product launch, a turnaround, or an acquisition. Alongside this operating career, I've coached dozens of CEOs, CMOs, and marketing leaders, and spent four years mentoring MBA students at UC San Diego's Rady School of Management, one of whom recently reached back out, twenty years later, to ask me to mentor her again. If you're a founder or rising executive who wants a coach who has actually sat in the seat—who has built the strategy, run the operation, faced the board, and closed the deal—I bring that expertise and enthusiasm directly to you.
