One of the hardest parts of writing a law school essay isn't the writing. It's deciding which story to tell. With this session, work with an experienced coach to uncover the experiences, values, and parts of your identity that will resonate most with admissions committees. This session includes the following: 1. Background Discussion: Begin by walking through your background, experiences, and motivations with your coach. This conversation sets the foundation for identifying the stories that make you distinct. 2. Targeted Thought Exercises: Work through a series of exercises designed to surface themes, perspectives, and qualities you may not have considered. Explore multiple possible narratives before committing to one. 3. Narrative Mapping: Identify your most compelling stories and map out how they can come together into a cohesive, authentic essay. Leave with a clear direction before you start drafting. This session is ideal for anyone starting a personal statement, diversity statement, or supplemental essay who wants guidance on which stories to tell and how to approach them. Ready to get started?

Hi! I’m Isidro. I’m a 3L at Stanford Law School and a first-generation college graduate from the University of Southern California. As the first in my family to pursue a graduate degree, I understand firsthand how difficult it can be to navigate higher education without a roadmap. I also understand how important it is to tell your story clearly, authentically, and in a way that allows admissions committees to see what makes you unique. My path to higher education was anything but linear. I was born to Mexican immigrant parents who worked blue-collar jobs. My mother was undocumented for much of my childhood before becoming a U.S. citizen. Her naturalization process sparked my interest in the law and gave me an early understanding of both the power of our legal system and the shortcomings of our nation’s immigration laws. Because no one in my immediate family had attended college, I had to navigate the admissions process largely on my own, relying on mentors and teachers for guidance. I ultimately gained admission to USC with a Trustee Scholarship, the university’s most selective merit-based scholarship, awarded to 100 of 3,500 incoming freshmen. At USC, my proudest achievement was founding and leading the university’s first cultural pre-law organization, Latino Students in Law. I worked closely with law school admissions officers, law students, professors, attorneys, and judges to organize programming for more than 150 undergraduate students interested in pursuing law. Through this experience, I gained insight into the law school admissions process and learned how to help students identify and communicate the experiences that make their stories compelling. Outside the classroom, I worked in Congress, on congressional campaigns, at education non-profits, and at mid-size immigration law firms. I was also selected for some of the nation’s most prestigious pre-law fellowships, including the Stanford Law Scholars Institute, UCLA Law Fellows Program, and Legal Education Access Pipeline. Since beginning at Stanford Law School, I’ve continued to explore the many opportunities a legal education can create. I have spent two summers in Big Law and one summer at Apple. These experiences have exposed me to different areas of the legal profession while reinforcing how life-changing a law degree from a top institution can be. My background has required me to learn about admissions, fellowships, internships, and career opportunities by actively seeking out information and building relationships with mentors over many years. Coaching allows me to share what I’ve learned with students who may not have access to that same roadmap. My goal is to help applicants identify the stories worth telling, and present their journeys with clarity and authenticity.
