The Art of the Angle: Finding Your Authentic Story
About the event
Every application essay has the same two moving parts: the honest material of your life, and the single thread you choose to pull out of it. This session is about finding that thread, the detail or decision specific enough to be yours rather than another version of leadership or resilience. Kelly and Emily will work through a few real examples side by side, a weak first draft next to the angle that actually landed. Kelly moved from industrial relations into systems engineering mid-career, and Emily built a product career out of a psychology degree, so neither is working from a straight-line resume. That's useful here: they've both had to explain a pivot that didn't look obvious on paper, which is close to what most applicants are trying to do in a few hundred words.
