Certified Top College Guru admissions coach and K-12 homeschool graduate, I understand deeply the challenges and opportunities that exist with homeschooled or alternatively educated students. I've been through the experience of applying to college and struggling to define my unique background as a homeschooled student - it can be a lonely process! After years of studying college admissions for homeschooled students and interviewing successful homeschoolers who attended college, I help these students to stand out and articulate their differentiated value and capture what makes them one-of-a-kind and indispensable to college admissions officers. With five years of work experience in the tech sector and degrees in STEM fields, I also emphasize helping students prepare for what is beyond the college admissions process and how to thrive in the career path they choose.

About Hunter
Hi, there! My name is Hunter and I love helping students with unique, alternative education backgrounds to stand out and succeed in reaching their college goals. I was homeschooled K-12 in a big family. I attended BYU and majored in the Information Systems program in the business school, which offered a practical mix of business and technology classes. I love all things technology, STEM and entrepreneurship. Today my full-time gig is working as a product manager in a tech company. I’m also earning a Master’s in Advanced Analytics and Machine Learning from Georgia Tech. I'm a certified college prep coach through the Top College Guru system, which has a strong track record of successfully helping hundreds of students get into their dream schools. I also teach courses to homeschooled students on business and technology. When I’m not working or spending time with my wife + 3 kiddos, I am playing jazz piano, podcasting, or training for my next long-distance race.
Why do I coach?
During my homeschooling experience I loved the freedom and flexibility it provided to pursue my passions and interests. However, it was challenging to know how to articulate my experience and stand out once I applied for college. Not only did I not know how to express my qualifications and unique strengths in my profile, I didn’t know a single person who had gone to college and was homeschooled. It was a lonely, and at times discouraging process. Since then, I’ve made it my mission to discover the secrets to bringing out the absolute best in students with a homeschooled or alternative education background, helping them to stand out and shine in the college application process. Over the years my life has been transformed by mentors and teachers who guided and directed at big moments in my life. I hope to do the same for my students. Having an alternative education background is a superpower for students - they just don’t know it yet! I am excited to play a part in helping them discover their abilities and special differentiators that land them a spot in the universities they want to attend.
