One of my biggest life goals was to receive an MBA from a top 10 global school, but when I began the MBA application process, my mind was filled with various questions, reflection points, and moments of self doubt:

How can I make my MBA dream a reality? Which schools should I apply to? I’m an international student, is round one my only hope? Are my resume and profile extremely generic? Am I asking the right people to write my recommendations? Are my recommendation letters supporting my story?

As an international student from an Asian country, it was challenging for me to fully understand the application process’ rigorous steps and details from a distance. Additionally, and more significantly, I was unsure how to tell my story in a way that was compelling and presented my unique strengths.

Being the first from my family to push towards this goal, I was desperately seeking out people who could give me practical advice and reduce some of my application anxiety. After months of discouragement, I eventually found some individuals to coach me through the process. They supported me at each phase and empowered me to show up as my best self, despite the initial set of trials. Some months down the line, I was admitted to my first choice business school: Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University. I was ecstatic and felt I could not have achieved this outcome without the help of my coaches.

The MBA application process is undoubtedly challenging and constantly tests the character of each applicant in its own unique way. However, I realized, with the help of a coach, network, and/or mentor, the path is much more bearable, clear, and inspiring.

This is why I coach. I coach because I once felt extremely lost in the journey, until I was able to find the support I needed, and I want to pay it forward. I coach because I want to be there for future applicants who may be experiencing the tension, stress, and anxiety of this overwhelming process. I coach to guide prospective candidates with pragmatic and relatable advice, so they, too, can realize their dreams.
